Outras casas (1)

Casa Malaparte, Capri

(...) There were quite a few problems to be solved and they were not easy. To start with, there was the positioning of the house to consider, because a choice had to be made between the two winds which often sweep across the area, from the North West and the South West . And I preferred to tackle them sideways on, by positioning the house so that its corners would bisect the four points of the compass. As regards the shape of the house, this was dictated by the formation of the rock, by its structure, by its gradient, and by the ratio between its sixty metre length and its twelve metre width. I went for length, making it ten metres wide and fifty four metres long. And since there is a certain point where the rock is linked to the mountain, where the crag tails off into a curve, forming something of a slender neck of rock, I decided to have a triangular stairway built there, which leads down from the upper edge of the roof terrace.
